Djair Cunha is looking for clarification from the Bundesliga side after they earlier this week said they would not be allowing him to be called up to Brazilian squad by Carlos Dunga.
“When we agreed the deal with Werder back in 2006, one of the first things I brought up was the Olympics, because I knew that Diego would have a great chance of taking part.
“Werder said they didn’t have a problem with that” Cunha said in an interview with the Brazilian internet site UOL Esporte.
Diego was called up by Carlos Dunga alongside Ronaldinho from Barcelona. The record World Cup winners are looking to win their first Olympic gold medal at this summer’s Beijing games so are looking to take their strongest possible squad along.
Because the Olympic tournament doesn’t fall within the jurisdiction of Fifa, clubs do not have to release players over the age of 23.
Diego, his father and Klaus Allofs are due to meet next week to discuss the issue.

Seven days in Miami, fourteen days back home in Sweden. It was exactly what Werder striker Markus Rosenberg needed before he returned to his club both healthy and relaxed on Thursday: “I feel really good,” said the 25 year old following his first session of running through Bremen’s ‘Bürgerpark’ in preparation for the new season.
His knee problem from the Swedish EURO 2008 training camp is behind him now: “I am not feeling pain anymore and hope that it stays that way. Whilst on holiday I just did some jogging and didn’t play any football. Neither the doctors in Sweden nor in Bremen saw any reason for concern and they have given me the green light,” explained Rosenberg.
The disappointment from the European Championships is also a thing of the past. Despite scoring 14 goals and having 9 assists to his credit in the Bundesliga last season, Rosenberg had to make way for Henrik Larsson in the Swedish starting eleven: “I had a fantastic season with Werder. My chances of winning a starting place in the team looked good until he returned. Here’s nothing you can do about that,” said the rather contrite striker: “Larsson has the name, he is a great player. Everyone loves him, he’s very likeable, Mr. Nice Guy. Everyone was happy to see him back in the team.”
At just 25, Markus Rosenberg is yet to reach his peak, but he still finds himself in the shadow of Henrik Larsson. The fact that the 36 year old still intends to continue his international career (“If I’m called upon, I’ll continue”) hasn’t shaken Rosenberg: “I am fully concentrated on Werder so as to pick up where I left off last season and continue to develop. I can’t do more than that.”

Normally Tim Wiese himself is well known for gliding through the air, but for a few days that was all to change. The stars of the air on this occasion carried names such as ‘F16’, ‘Starfighter’ and ‘Airbus A 380’. Wiese, along with some 15,000 spectators and a camera team from WERDER.TV, were astounded by the spectacular model aircraft festival in Ganderkesee.
“The best pilots from all over Europe are gathered here. It’s very impressive to see them and their machines.” Wiese was extremely happy to see one man in particular: ‘Jet-Granddad’, his friend and mentor in model jet flying. Wiese said of the three time international Dutch champion in model aircraft stunt flying: “He is a well known pilot in this scene. It was through him that I developed an interest in flying model aircraft. He gave me my first lessons. They are absolutely necessary, without practice, you should not fly such jets. They can cost as much as a small car.”
Wiese auctioned one of these jets ahead of the ‘Ganderkesee Air-Day’ for a good cause. The presentation of the autographed machine took place on the airstrip of the Gandersee airfield. Although it was Wiese’s very first model aircraft, that was now changing hands, the pain of separation was contained: “It was for a good cause, and aside from that, I’ve got four others waiting for me at home.”
