The injury to his right thigh, picked up by Daniel Jensen during yesterday’s training session, has emerged as a muscle sinew tear. The 28 year old Danish midfielder confirmed the diagnosis as he began today with rehabilitation training: “Injuries are always frustrating, no matter when they occur”, explained Jensen, who has only recently recovered from a groin problem.
With regards to the length of time that he could be out of action, Jensen said: “I hope that I can re-join the team in two weeks but you really have to wait and see how the recovery process develops and we will know more about that next week.”
The Werder players went through two training sessions on Wednesday with the Daniel Jensen proving the only absentee from either session.

The Werder players are still coming to terms with the defeat against MSV Duisburg but the team are hoping to rise from the negative experience of last Saturday with some re-discovered strength. “Of course it’s bitter as a footballer to go through such a phase, but, in my opinion, the experience that you take from something like that is important too”, explained Per Mertesacker in an exclusive interview with WERDER.TV.
“We are not about to disarrange our targets just because of going through such a phase. I truly believe we will find ourselves as a team and prove our determination to change the current situation as a team”, remarked the lofty centre half, who is still convinced of his side’s strength: “We have a massive amount of potential within the team. Although we had problems earlier in the season, we managed to get a grip on things”, added Mertesacker as he reminisced on the 36 points and second place in the table going into the winter break.
With plans afoot to return to former success, this weekend’s game in Berlin could hardly come at a better time. Is the match against Hertha BSC the key? “We have been working very hard in training, that you can believe! We intend to go there and present ourselves as a team”, concluded Mertesacker, who added for good measure: “A successful team!”

Following training on Tuesday, Sebastian Boenisch came to a short, but honest conclusion: “It was very intensive”, explained the full-back before dashing off to the changing rooms to escape the threatening rain. The Green-Whites intend to use a committed effort to break their current negative run and trainer Thomas Schaaf was very satisfied with the attitude at the most recent session: “We trained well and intensively. Activity, commitment and determination were clear to see. That’s just how we want things to be at the weekend too”, added the 46 year old with a view to the up-coming Bundesliga clash with Hertha BSC Berlin.
“We need to absorb the things which we saw last weekend, reflect them and get to work on putting them right. That’s our job”, remarked the trainer and he continued by saying: “We will attempt to maintain the things which are working whilst we improve upon our mistakes. It’s not possible to do that in just one session though.”
Daniel Jensen was met with a sudden, unexpected hitch in his enthusiasm to get working. The midfielder was forced to cut training short due to a thigh problem. The Danish international is still awaiting a complete diagnosis of the injury: “I don’t know what it is but it happened as I was running – it’s really bitter”, commented the clearly crestfallen Jensen. Thomas Schaaf remarked: “We’ll just have to wait and see what it is.”
